When I lived in San Francisco I caught a glimpse of a lovely young women sunning herself in the morning.She was grabbing the best part of the day and drinking it in, as I often do.Many years later I still think of her when I am having tea in the sun.I added small bit's of myself in this piece as I felt a shift in my spirit when I saw her.A reflection of me.


Sitting on the steps of your painted lady
White dress getting dirty
Your perfume like a jalousie
shifting through the smoke
of your cigarette
Your hair free and lightened from the sun
That sun which shows no restraint
causing a dance of freckles
across the bridge of your nose

Warmth in your belly
on your tongue
from the morning tea
while you watch traffic
Counting cars
as they run over the shadows

Took the red trolley to Mexico
yesterday
Home today with yesterdays blankets and flower pots
blankets still smelling of Mexico
Clay pots are waiting
to be filled with black eyed susan's

Not a rose where the bloom hides the thorn
or an orchid
who's beauty is the need
to entice and trap
But a mob of black eyed susan's
yawning in the the sun
mocking it's disregard
